The “International Symposium on Semiconductor Materials and Devices, ISSMD-2020” was held at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar from 31st October, 2020 to 02nd November, 2020. It was organized by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, Semiconductor Society (India) (SSI) and Society for Semiconductor Devices (SSD). The symposium was held online on the Microsoft Teams platform due to the ongoing pandemic situation. It was sponsored by Labindia Instruments Pvt Ltd, Navson Technologies Private Limited and Mittal Enterprises. There were 65 registrations including participants, attendees and advertisers. The symposium was focused on following topics:
• Compound Semiconductors
• 2D quantum materials and devices
• Organic semiconductors
• Ultra wide bandgap semiconductors
• Power electronic devices
• Crystal Growth of Semiconductor Materials
• Device modelling and simulations
• Amorphous semiconductors
The symposium was inaugurated on 31st October, 2020 in the presence of the patrons Prof. L. K. Awasthi & Prof. Vikram Kumar, Prof. R. K. Sharma (Chairman, SSI) and Prof. Rajendra Singh (Secretary, SSI), and members of the organizing committee Prof. H. Dahiya and Dr. A. P. Singh. The participants benefitted a lot from the keynote address by Prof. B. R. Mehta, IIT Delhi, 5 plenary talks and 18 invited talks by researchers working in the frontier areas of Semiconductor materials and devices. Following were the symposium sessions:
1. Semiconductor materials
2. Device modelling and simulations
3. Electronic devices
4. 2D materials and devices
5. Amorphous and organic semiconductors
The symposium had prominent contributions from researchers across India and outside. There were 7 oral presentations and remaining contributions were accepted in the form of posters. A committee of experts ranked the poster contributions and on the basis of their recommendations three best poster awards were declared. There were lively discussions and exchange of ideas in these expert talks and oral & poster presentations. An industry session was held on 01/11/2020 were the companies demonstrated/advertised their products to the participants. The symposium ended on 02nd November, 2020 and views about ISSMD-2020 were expressed by the participants, SSI members and the organizing committee.
