Academic Programmes

The department of physics is participating by offering a full semester courses on Applied Physics for all branches, Material Science and Engineering for Chemical Engineering, Materials Science for EC and IC branches. In addition to this department is also offering open elective courses on Material Science and Computation and Statistical Techniques for 6th, 7th and 8th Semester of all branches.
Candidates can apply for admission in M.Sc. (Full Time) programme based on IIT-JAM through the online application processing system, JOAPS, link available at JAM website (IIT JAM Website).

Applicants with valid JAM score are eligible to participate in centralized counselling for admission at 22 participating institutes of CCMN (20 National institute of Technology and 02 centrally funded Technical Institutes).

For admission in NIT Jalandhar, the minimum educational qualification is B.Sc. in appropriate branch of Science with minimum 60% marks (or CGPA 6.5/10) and mathematics as one of the subjects in B.Sc.
NIT Jalandhar offers Ph.D. (Full Time / Part Time) in various disciplines of physics, for which applications are invited twice a year through an advertisement in the national dailies, media and on institute’s website.

The candidates possessing minimum 60% marks (or CGPA 6.5/10) in the master’s degree along with qualified NET / GATE or any equivalent external fellowship are eligible to apply for the Full Time Ph.D. programme. However, for Part Time Ph.D., candidates specified by industry/ institute having R&D facility recognized by NITJ preferably with two years’ experience and having same academic qualification as that for PhD regular candidates are eligible to apply.

All the eligible candidates have to appear for an Entrance Test and those, who secure minimum 40% marks in this test, shall be called for the interview to be organized by the respective department.

At the time of interview, candidates are expected to discuss their research interest/area of interest.

Keeping in view the available seats, the Interview Committee shall recommend the names of candidates found suitable for admission to Ph.D. Programme for the approval of Chairman, Senate. The Associate Dean Academics (PG)/Dean (Academics) shall notify the list of selected candidates through appropriate means.
