The instrument has significant research potential for evaluating the compressional behaviour of textile fabrics. It can be used to study the effects of fibre type, yarn properties, fabric construction, GSM, thickness and finishing treatments on compressibility, compression energy, recovery work, compression resilience and thickness recovery. The results can help assess fabric softness, handle, cushioning performance and durability under repeated compression. It can also support the development of an objective fabric quality evaluation system by correlating compression parameters with subjective softness and comfort. With automated data acquisition, cyclic testing and proper calibration, the instrument could become a valuable tool for textile research and product development.
